Hey Young Chefs!
On Day 5, we went to Chinatown, saw The Statue of Liberty, and shopped at Chelsea Market. When we were in Chinatown, we ate longan, a fruit, scallion pancakes, and soup dumplings!!! This is what longan looks like.
We ate soup dumplings at Shanghai Cafe on 100 Mott St. They are amazing! I could eat them every day.
Make sure you don’t bite straight into the dumpling because it’s very hot. My mom did that when she first tried them.
Ask them how to eat it before you try. The scallion pancakes were also awesome.
Next, we walked towards the subway. On the way, we saw a guy painting names on the sign that you chose with a teenie tiny sponge. He dipped the sponge in two different colors and painted the letters of your name in the style you chose. I decided to get one. I picked out a One Direction sign. They are my favorite band!
He painted my name in blue and pink in a New York buildings style. It was so cool how he painted so quickly.
Then, we rode the Staten Island Ferry and saw the Statue of Liberty.
Riding the Staten Island Ferry was fun!
Finally, we went to Chelsea Market and shopped for ingredients for dinner. I bought a variety of ingredients such as arugula, Cremini mushrooms, and pears.
Shopping at Chelsea Market was awesome!
For dinner, I made mixed greens salad with pears and chevre. It had a fig balsamic vinaigrette. I also made Fiore pasta from Eataly with Cremini mushrooms and a cream sauce and basil, arugula, almond, and Gorgonzola pesto. Mmm!
For dessert, I mixed marscapone with honey and added blackberries and blueberries. We had a busy day!
Cool Kids Cook and Shop at Chelsea Market!
